Storm against Bayrou

First, everybody ignored him. And then, after Ségo's blunders, he started going up. And when a poll said he would win against Ségo but also against Sarko, the PS (Socialist Party) and the UMP (Union for a Popular Movement, conservatives) started being scared!

The last few days have been very harsh against Bayrou (UDF, Union for a French Democracy, centrist). The socialists said he was "right-wing". But, as Bayrou said he was against the left/right division, I'm afraid they are playing his game.

Ségo claimed he didn't have any program. I still can't believe that she, in particular, said that.

Sarko freed Simone Veil, former UDF, from the Constitutional Counsel. She said Bayrou didn't represent the centrist movement, and that the centre existed inside the UMP. By the way, the centre is so present inside the UMP that this is the very reason she criticized Sarko for suggesting the creation of a "ministry of immigration and national identity" a few days later. She has been even further about Bayrou by saying he was "the worst of all". Worse than far right Le Pen?! Worse than inconsistent Ségo?!

Left wing newspapers haven't been easy on him either. "Libération" published on their first page "Why bohos vote for Bayrou" and, in a nutshell, accused the socialist electors voting Bayrou of... being rich. "Libération's" readers haven't taken that the right way and the main redactor had to explain himself and admitted... he was rich.

However, I have the feeling there is some indulgence from the left wing medias towards Bayrou. In the few things I could read, journalists preferred to make fun at him rather than accusing him of anything, really. Are they afraid that Ségo loses? That she wins? Are they preparing the second poll their own way?

Come on, only one month and one day before knowing the name of our two finalists.
